THE PREMIO STOCCOLMA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) - Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, the Ministry of Culture (MiC) - Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity and the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm announce the 1st edition of the "PREMIO STOCCOLMA", a residency programme dedicated to the themes of sustainability and eco-innovation in the fashion industry.  

The aim of the award is to support two young fashion designers through two six-month scholarships, offering the chance to spend a period in Sweden and make a professional experience at cutting-edge organisations, fashion institutions and companies to delve into the themes of sustainable fashion design, from reuse and recycle of materials to smart textiles, from circular business models to applied technologies.  

The residencies will take place in cooperation with the Swedish Institute and Swedish Fashion Association as scientific partners of the project.

The two winners will be involved in activities and events organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm and/or the prize partners, and will present the results at the end of the residency.

For the 1st edition of the "PREMIO STOCCOLMA", two 6-month fellowships (January - June 2024) will be awarded, at the unquestionable judgement of the Commission, each providing the following benefits:

1) A monthly allowance of Euro 2,500 for living expenses and participation in activities at organisations, institutions and/or companies specialised in sustainable fashion;  

2) Accommodation for the entire duration of the stay;

3) A round-trip ticket from Italy to Stockholm;

4) Insurance coverage for health expenses, accidents, injuries.  

The winners will take care of having the competent ASL issue the S1 model for local health coverage and will follow the instructions of the Italian Ministry of Health in this regard. The European Health Insurance Card (TEAM - Tessera Europea di Assicurazione Malattia) will be valid for services at health advisory centres and emergency admissions.

REQIUREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

Applicants to “Premio Stoccolma” must:  

a) Be Italian citizens;  

b) Be born after December 31st, 1988;  

c) Hold a three-year degree, or a first level academic diploma, or equivalent qualification recognised, in subjects related to fashion design; or a post-graduate qualification (Second Level Master's Degree, Doctorate or equivalent) in subjects related to fashion design;  

d) Have a proven research activity and/or have active collaborations and projects in the specific sector of fashion design;

e) Have a good knowledge of the English language.

Designers who are part of a group may only apply individually.

EXCLUSION CONDITIONS

Employees, as well as relatives and relatives-in-law up to the second degree of kinship, of the tendering organisations, including the Swedish Institute and the Association of Swedish Fashion Brands, are not eligible to take part in the selections.

HOW TO APPLY

The application must be drawn up on the basis of the facsimile attached to this call (Annex A) and must be sent no later than 12:00 (Italian time) on 20 September 2023, together with the relevant attachments, to the following e-mail address: [email protected].  

The subject line should indicate the reference to the award and the name of the candidate. The application must contain an explicit declaration of authorisation to process personal data, as per the facsimile attached to this call.  

The application form must be accompanied by the following documentation, submitted in a single .pdf file weighing up to 5 MB:  

a)     curriculum vitae signed by the candidate (in Italian and in English);    

b)     portfolio with graphic/video documentation of the design and/or research activity carried out in the field of sustainable fashion design. Videos can be presented via link to file-sharing or storage platforms;  

c)     a motivation letter (in Italian and in English) signed by the candidate clearly explaining the relationship between the themes and the context of the residency and his/her own professional and/or research objectives;

d)     at least one letter of endorsement of the candidate, signed by experts in the field;

e)     copy of a valid ID;

f)      copy of any language certifications (if possessed).

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Unsolicited materials will not be examined.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The "Premio Stoccolma" will be awarded by an international Commission composed of 5 members:

- one representative of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity

- one representative of the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm;

- an expert in the field jointly designated by DG CC, MAECI and IIC Stockholm;

- one representative of the Swedish Institute;

- one representative of the Swedish Fashion Association.

The names of the members of the Commission will be published on the following websites: esteri.it (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), italiana.esteri.it/italiana (Italiana. Lingua, cultura, creatività nel mondo), creativitacontemporanea.cultura.gov.it (Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea) and www.iicstoccolma.esteri.it (Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Stoccolma), after the deadline of the call.

The Commission will meet by the end of October 2023.

Applications received by the deadline and in the manner indicated in art. 4 will be subjected to a formal verification regarding the completeness and regularity of the documentation submitted. Subsequently, the evaluation of the applications will be carried out by the above-mentioned Commission, which will prepare a merit list. The evaluation will be carried out on the basis of curriculum vitae, qualifications and experience of the candidates.

The outcome of the Commission's evaluation will be communicated by e-mail to the two shortlisted candidates, who must send formal acceptance of the award to the e-mail address [email protected] within and no later than 7 (seven) days. In the absence of such acceptance by the deadline, the prize will be awarded to the first eligible candidate in the ranking list.

The names of the two winners will be published on the website of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the website of the Italian MAECI, on the website of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity and on the website of the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm.

The judgement of the Commission is unquestionable.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE REGULATIONS

By participating in the call, applicants accept, without reservation, all the regulations contained in this notice.

DISPUTES

All disputes arising between the Parties from the interpretation and/or execution of this deed shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Court of Rome.

PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA

Participation in this call for proposals entails the provision of personal data, which shall be processed, used and stored, including by means of computerised procedures, in a lawful, correct and transparent manner, pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Legislative Decree No. 196 of 30 June 2003, as amended and supplemented, for the purposes related to the performance of the relevant procedure.

The provision of data is mandatory and refusal to provide the same will make it impossible to proceed with the evaluation of the application for participation in the selection, as well as the consequent and inherent fulfilments of this selection.
